It's Spring Time Lambda Sigma Sigma!!!! Let us stop and smell the yellow tea roses!!!
The weekend of February 26, 2016, the Pretty Poodles found time to get away at a Winter Retreat in the beautiful mountains of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Meditation, relaxation and reflection were the only requirements for this event.
On March 5, 2016 and March 12, 2016, an Informational forum was held for young ladies aged 12 to 18, interested in becoming a Rhoer in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Natalie Cole, is the chairperson of this committee.
Youth Symposium was held March 12, 2016 at the Veterans Memorial Middle School. Iota Gamma Sigma co-hosted the event. The theme of this year's event was "Building Partnerships to Support Our Youth". This year marks the 19th year Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has held Youth Symposium. It is the second year Lambda Sigma Sigma has held this event. The symposium is just one initiative of the national essential programs of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Additional partners included Lambda Delta Chapter with the University of Georgia, Romonda Middlebrooks-Jefferson, Assistant Principal at Veterans Memorial Middle School and Carolyn Davenport Financial Services, LLC. Event sponsors include, Dance 4 Life, LLC and AC Master Barber. The symposium included, a Zumba Energizer, lead by Dr. P. Paulette Bragg; Girls Talk, facilitated by Tyneisha Hamilton; Boys Talk, facilitated by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Rho Sigma Lambda Chapter and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Conyers-Covington Chapter; Georgia 411 Parent Talk, facilitator, Brenda Vaughn, K-12 Outreach Representative, Georgia Student Finance Commission; Run Jump Throw, for ages 12 and under, facilitated by members of the sorority; Golden Alert, facilitated by Dr. Deborah Brown and Lt. Desmond Coleman, Henry County police department; Fashion and Image, facilitator, Tulena Sumar; Special recognitions, presented by Sandra Kelly; STEM, presenter, Ronnie Thomas, Georgia Science and Robotics Academy, Inc.; Step Clinic, facilitators, Markay Russell, Stephanie Lindo, Lisa Rainford and LaPorsche Thomas, Lambda Delta Chapter. Lunch was provided to all participants. Vendors included Jay Celeste, author and Gwinnett Medical.
March 31, 2016 through April 3, 2016 the 76th Southeastern Regional Conference was held at the Grand Hyatt Tampa, Tampa, Florida. Lambda Sigma Sigma had 4 delegates, one alternate, and 2 life members attend the regional conference along with 7 other chapter members. Regional elections were held. Members participated in conference business sessions, and attended workshops. "Rhock The Boat" was a white party held on the Starship yacht. Members also attended various luncheons, banquets, and a Sisterhood Prayer Breakfast, featuring Anthony Brown and Group Therapy. Two members from Lambda Sigma Sigma, Kyana Cannon and Luv Brown participated in a Stroll competition for the state of Georgia. The team won first place!!! I believe Georgia Stroll shirts may still be available if you are interested. The evening entertainment was MC Lytle and Doug E. Fresh. Lambda Sigma Sigma also entered the Chapter display competition and was awarded second place. Dr. Deborah Brown of Lambda Sigma Sigma was awarded Soror of the Year for the Southeast Region!! Major Sigma Kudos to Dr. Brown, the Georgia Stroll Team and the Chapter Display!!! Now is the time to begin thinking about the 77th Southeastern Regional Conference that will be held March 30, 2017 – April 2, 2017 at the Orlando World Center Marriott, Orlando, Florida, hosted by Delta Mu Sigma Chapter.
Chapter elections are on the horizon as well as Swim 1922. Lambda Sigma Sigma, are we ready to take on the future with enthusiasm and energy? Of course we are!!! Greater Service Greater Progress!!!
